14' dome Passes the test in Alaska - AT&T endorsment

This is a great letter of Testomony to the durability of the 14' dome!!!

January 21, 2011

Dear Mr. Kubley,

I just wanted to drop you a quick note and give you an update on the Intershelter dome that we put up in August of 2010. The dome is performing flawlessly for us! We have had several very severe winter storms roll through Southeast Alaska this winter, many ofwhich recorded winds in excess of 100mph.

As you know, we have the dome installed at one of our unmanned microwave repeater sites at 2,450 feetabove sea level. This site typically gets the most severe weather with snow up to 20 feet annually and the highest winds Southeast Alaska has to offer.

I have attached a couple of photos of the original construction and from our most recent visit to the site post storm.

Thanks again for a great product.

Haiti Presidential Election Posponed until February

Presidential runoff postponed in Haiti, no new date set

Jan 5, 2011, 15:05 GMT

Port-au-Prince - The presidential runoff election in Haiti has been officially postponed until at least February, although no new date was set for it to take place.

Pierre-Louis Opont, president of the Caribbean country's electoral council, confirmed the postponement of a runoff that had originally been planned for January 16, Radio Metropole reported Wednesday.

The postponement had been expected for weeks, since official results of the November 28 election are yet to be announced. The top two candidates in that vote are set to face off in a runoff.

Observers expect the decisive election to take place in March. Outgoing Haitian President Rene Preval has already said several times that he is willing to stay in office till May, instead of leaving in February as established in the original election schedule.

Experts from the Organization of American States (OAS) are currently overseeing the vote count for the November election, amid complaints of fraud.

Preval is accused of having manipulated the election to favour his party's candidate, Jude Celestin. If unofficial results announced so far are eventually confirmed, Celestin would join conservative Mirlande Manigat in the runoff, leaving popular singer Michel Martelly out of the race for the presidency.

Dome Shape Advantage

I happened on a publication (Domes and Uses a Collection of Monolithic Dome Structures and their many uses).  This was published by Monolithic Dome Institute.  This is a great publication that has a great deal of information on, you guessed it, monolithic domes.  A monolithic dome is a type of insulated concrete thin shell structure.  These domes are created by using an inflated formwork and using spray applied concrete for the main structural component.  Also utilized is polyurethane foam for energy control.  The EnviroDome is built by using a fiberglass composite with a gel coat finish.  Both the Envirodome and the Monolithic dome have one thing in common.  The SHAPE!!

Let's take a look at just one dome structure that has been around for nearly 2,000 years, the Pantheon in Rome Italy.  This still has the longest span constructed before the 19th Century. The Panteon has some serious staying power.

Emmett High School in Emmett, ID had constructed domes 1986-1987.  The dome design provided savings in both maintenance and utility costs.  In 1996 energy costs were less that $0.10 per square foot as compared to a local elementary school which cost $0.33 per square foot durning the same time period.

Cascadia Community College Social Justice Fair

EnviroDome Logo

Please help me welcome Mr. Joseph Barcha as a new dealer for EnviroDome.    Joseph lives in Lake Stevens Washington and is the owner of Innovative Outdoor Spaces LLC.  Over the past several months Joseph has been enrolled at Cascadia Community College in Bothell where he is learning about sustainability and other energy related topics.

In a 2007 list of the top U.S. two-year colleges created by Washington Monthly magazine, Cascadia ranked second, behind Atlanta Technical College.

The college is hosting a Social Justice Fair to showcase the work of the students.  Joseph will have the 14’ dome up and ready for public viewing.  If you would like to meet Joseph and view the dome you will be received warmly.  We had a chance to meet a few of the students and speak to Mel Oyler, PH.D, Sustainable Practices.  We are looking forward to working with the college in the future to enhance the projects that we are involved with.

Social Justice Fair Schedule:

 Tuesday December 7th 1:15-4:30

Mobius Hall

Wednesday December 8th 9:00 to 4:30

Mobius Hall.

Click here for directions to the school.

With the 14’ dome you start out with a ring to keep the dome in place while the panels are being connected.  Just like the 20’ dome you start with the door panel then work the first tier of panels around clock wise.  We had the dome up in less than 2 hours.

The 14’ dome can fit into the back of a pickup truck and easily transported to remote locations.  You can use the dome for mining shacks, Ice huts, garden shed, and Jacuzzi covers.   The dome below is used by Alaska Electric Light and Power.  As you can see they come in different colors as well.

We apologize once again for the delay in getting our web site complete and on line.  For more information about domes and uses please visit the Manufacturers web site (www.intershelter.com).   You can follow EnviroDome on one of the following social networks.  We like to hear from you either by leaving comments or via email.

EnviroDome Update

I hope that you had a Fantastic Thanksgiving!  We had some rough weather in the Seattle area over the holiday.   The snow is now off of the ground and those gusty winds have come and gone.  Now it is all about cleaning up the debris and preparing for the next storm front.  If you are looking for items like candles, water purification items or information on ways to survive for long periods of time, you should consider visiting The Survival Center.

We had an opportunity to head south to visit The Survival Center in McKenna, Washington.  We met with Richard “the survival guy“ who treated us to a tour of his facility.  His operation is very impressive in that he has items available to get you through short term emergencies and even full blown disasters.     Richard told us that when you get into a survival situation, you need to remember to cover the four basics, food, water, medical and shelter.   The Survival Center has all you will need to cover all four bases.  Richard has a large selection of air and freeze dried foods on hand, all you have to know how to do is boil water.  They even have canned Bacon, YES!!

When I first spoke to Richard on the phone, I let him know that I had had a number of people come into our display dome located at the Auburn Super Mall who raved about The Survival Center.   We had not visited the survival center at that time however I had viewed his web site and I was very impressed with the array of products that he has available.  We set up a time for Chuck and I to drive down and take a peek at the center in person.  We started up the long drive way and could not believe our eyes when we saw a dome attached to the survival center.  It was not just any dome it was an Intershelter dome.

When Richard came out to shake hands with us he had a big smile plastered on his face.  He said that he purposely did not tell me that he had a dome while he had me on the phone.  We all enjoyed a chuckle over that.

Richard said that he had purchased the dome over 15 years ago and now uses it as a shipping dome.  He pressure washes the dome once a year and it looks just like it did the day he set it up.   This is a great testimonial to how rugged these domes are and how well they stand up to the environment.  I cannot encourage you enough to go to McKenna to visit The Survival center.  Be sure to pick up all of the supplies that you will need to make a simple power outage more bearable or you can even get enough supplies to survive for a year or more.  Richard is the expert on above and below ground living.

This is a photo of an underground shelter that was recently shipped.

Just like the EnviroDome, you can easily cluster the underground units.  A stairway can be added so that you and your family can easily descend into a safe haven until the emergency has passed.  The diagrams below are just a couple of options that are available.

You can easily put a dome over the entrance to give you an entry point that will withstand Hurricane force winds, earthquakes and snow levels of over 40’.

If you live out of state and would like to order products, Richard has a very convenient on line store that makes shopping a breeze.

We are on the tail end of completing a brand new web site.  Please bear with us while the project is finished.  Please visit Intershelter for more information.  I will let you know when the new site is launched.
